This
study tests whether Gatorade could ensure a better rehydratation than
water. The rapid and efficient replacement of the fluid sweat lost is
an important means for maintaining effort capacity. An optimal
rehydration beverage must fulfill more requirements: to encourage
consumption, to ensure a quick intestinal absorption and a slow urine
elimination rate. The study assessed whether replacing sweat losses
with sodium-free fluid can lower the plasma sodium concentration and
can lead to losing more fluid during exercise, with negative effects
on cardiovascular activity and physiological stress.
Measurements
of sweat loss, diuresis, natremy, fluid ingestion and heart rate were
some of the parameters that demonstrated Gatorade’s
efficiency as a
rehydratation fluid. Based on the results of the study, we can
appreciate the benefits of the Gatorade fluid replacement during
aerobic gymnastic training.
