Abstract
The
aims of
our research was a cross-sectional study on 200 Indian nurses. The
purpose of the study was to investigate the prevalence of low back pain
(LBP) in Indian nurse, to evaluate disability due to low back pain in
nurses, and to compare endurance of the trunk muscles in nurses with
and without low back pain. Material and Methods. Subjects screened by
means of a structured questionnaire and data regarding prevalence of
LBP and associated factors. Two groups were made: group A (symptomatic
subjects) and group B (asymptomatic control group). Group A were
assessed for associated disability using Modified the Oswestry Low Back
Pain Disability Questionnaire (MOLBPDQ). Both groups were
tested
for endurance of back extensor muscles using. Results. A total of 200
subjects were screened for the purpose, 132 subjects were found to have
low back pain. From these 132, 40 subjects were evaluated for the
purpose to check back extensors endurance. Low back pain group had
lower endurance of back extensors when compared to the asymptomatic
control group, the difference being statistically highly significant.
Conclusion. There can be significant association of low back
pain, disability & trunk muscle muscular endurance. 96.9% of
the
total subjects had a minimal to moderate disability and only 3% of them
had severe disability. Subjects with LBP showed less endurance than the
subjects without LBP.
