Abstract
Aim
of study was to compare the effect of three different techniques
(Static stretching, Eccentric training and Muscle energy technique) on
the hamstring muscles flexibility in Indian collegiate males. Material
and Methods: Study was done in a physiotherapy unit in
Majeedia Hospital. In this study, 30 Indian collegiate male subjects
with hamstring tightness were randomly allocated into three study
groups. Group-A subjects were treated with Static stretching where as
other group-B by Muscle energy technique and Eccentric training to
Group-C subjects. The treatment was given for 5 consecutive days and a
follow-up measurement on 8th day. The outcome was measured in terms of
Straight Leg Raise Angle (SLR). Results:
A significant difference in range of motion (ROM) between group
(p<0.05). It was found that highly significant difference in
pre-post treatment ROM in all three groups in 5 days (p<.05) and
significant decrease in ROM in the follow-up measurement
(p<.05). Conclusion: The result
shows that Static Stretching (SST), Eccentric training (ECC) and Muscle
Energy Techniques are in significant improvement. Also out of three
techniques static stretching resulted in maximum improvement followed
by Muscle energy technique and least improvement was shown by Eccentric
training.
