Sports Injuries. Overuse
injuries and acute injuries
Overuse injuries. Affect skin,
nerves, bursae, tendons, muscles, ligaments, joints, cartilage of
joints and bones. Overuse injuries are increasing in recent years with
increasing demands for higher performance for athletes. An overuse
injury occurs when repetitive micro trauma exceed the capacity of the
tissue to repair itself.
Acute Injuries. Bruises, lacerations,
injuries to muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves and blood vessels, as
also dislocations and fractures are discussed. Factors which
pre-dispose to sports injuries are intrinsic and extrinsic.
Rehabilitation
of sports injuries. When to start. Aims of
rehabilitation and correct way for the athletes to return to their
original sport. Return to play only when the athlete is 100% recover
and has regained the flexibility of the joints.
